Dima Pechegin
Diagnosis: cerebral palsy, spastic tetraplegia, symptomatic epilepsy, internal hydrocephalus..
Dima’s mother had her pregnancy in a very difficult and alarming times of 2014-2015. The family lived in Lugansk region, in the city Schastie (direct translation to english – Happiness). They experienced many fears during that times, because due to military actions they had to constantly hide in the basement of the house or lie on the floor when the bombs flew into the city and fell somewhere nearby…
Medically, the pregnancy was normal, the baby was healthy. At the 7th month of pregnancy, tired of the constant nervous tension and sleepless nights the family decided to move to Kyiv and left their home with just one bag of personal things. They had the hope to calmly continue the pregnancy, give birth to the baby and return home.
The mother spent the last week before giving birth in the hospital. Dima was born on the 40th week, on time, but something went wrong during the process of giving birth. The contractions ceased, the stimulation of labor began using the Kresseller method (extrusion). After the birth, the baby did not cry. Dima was reanimated with convulsions in a serious condition for a week after giving birth. After some stabilization, he spent a month in the neonatology department. And further, at home – continuous crying, repeated convulsions … constant returns to the neurology department.
Then Dima was given the diagnosis of cerebral palsy and the first group of disability.
… It was impossible to return home with a baby who needs constant medical supervision, treatment, rehabilitation … Mother understood this, but not the father …
Thus, mother and Dima became immigrants. The family budget right now is a disability pension and alimony which is one thousand hryvnia per month (around 200 dollars/month).
In his 4.5 years, Dima does not hold his head, does not sit, does not talk. He eats and drinks with the help of his mother, who is always there, whose love and faith can overcome all those difficulties.
