Students of the Youth Media Center of the frontline city of Maryinka present the photo project “We Are Alive”, with the support of the project Donbass studios of the IZOLYATSIYA Foundation and “Kids to Kids” Fund.
The exhibition units the work of eight teenagers aged 14-16 living in Marinka and Krasnogorovka, witnesses of the terrible devastation of Ukrainian cities and towns of the Donbas region.
Participants: Lisa Naumenko, Anastasia Trofimenko, Ivanna Zaklevskaya, Alexandra Olesova, Lyudmila Lysenko, Lera Zubareva, Ruslana Abrosimova, Miroslav Trofimenko.
Photo project “We Are Alive” – a project about children, torn from childhood and placed in the context of war. They return to familiar places – schools, houses, but now this is another reality. All familiar and native remains in the past. Values and goals have changed. The present frightens with its contrasts and constant threats. In the photos, children are against the background of the destroyed walls that once surrounded and protected their happiness, hopes and plans.
Meanwhile, fighting has not ceased for the fourth year, and the childhood of these adolescents and other children is being shot by targeted fire from various types of weapons. “There are a lot of talented children in the frontline Maryinsky district and they can not leave, as their parents are not in the position to leave their homes. In general, people find it difficult to leave their homes and go somewhere unknown, “says Oleg Tkachenko, creator and head of the youth media center in Maryinka. The media center was created in order to somehow support the children and give them the opportunity to express themselves through photography. The center plans to create a school of journalism. During the exhibition, visitors will have the opportunity to provide financial support to the media center, which will be aimed at buying necessary photographic equipment or transferring used equipment to students. Thus, we will give a chance to more children to learn a new skill, which for some of them can become a matter of life.
At the exhibition there was an installation of the Kiev Art Group CoolArt – reflection on the topic of our perception of life in the front-line zone. Art-group CoolArt (Olga Gurina and Oleg Kulai-Kulaychuk, Kiev) call special attention to the narrative, which is based on the plot image, context and subjectivity of the viewer’s perception.
Within the opening of the exhibition, a work-shop was held by the Kiev photographer Oleg Kulai-Kulaychuk. Theme of the work-shop: The button “masterpiece” or how to make a hopeless shot successful. The photographer explained in simple language the basics of the photography, as well as photo processing in Adobe Lightroom.
