Evacuation story of the Center for social and psychological rehabilitation of children in Toretsk city

Until February 24, 2022, the pupils of the Center for Social and Psychological Rehabilitation for Children in Toretsk city, Ukraine were in their hometown of Toretsk, Donetsk Region. But the morning of February 24 has come and changed everything … The children woke up to the heavy bombardment of the city and specifically the district where their institution is located. Before, children heard the sounds of cannonade and explosions, but not like on that terrible day of the beginning of the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation into our country. Therefore, the head of the Toretsk city military administration, Vasyl Chinchyk, made a decision to immediately evacuate children from the city to a safer region of our country.

At that time, the only way out was to rehabilitate the children in the “Artek International Children’s Center” DPU in Kyiv. With the joint efforts of Lyudmila Yelyukova, the deputy head of the Toretsk MBA, Tetyana Nikonova, the head of the children’s service of the Toretsk MBA, and other specialists of the service –  Valery Kornienko, director of the Center for Social and Psychological Rehabilitation for Children in Toretsk city, and all the employees of the Center the pupils of the Center were provided with everything they needed and sent for rehabilitation and temporary evacuation.

Later, together with other children who were also at the time being rehabilitated at the Artek International Children’s Center, together with the workers of the Artek International Children’s Center, the children were evacuated to Transcarpathia.

After almost six months of stay of the children in Transcarpathia, with the help of the military administration of the city of Kyiv and the Kyiv City Service for Children and Family Affairs, the children of the Toretsk community received shelter and comprehensive assistance in the city of Kyiv. And not just a shelter, but also respect, care, love and social protection…

Currently, the children are in the Sanatorium Boarding School of the I – II degrees No. 21, Obolonsky district, Kyiv. All children have the status of orphans and children deprived of parental care. Every day, the director of the institution and the staff of the boarding school ensure that the children are provided with everything necessary for full development, life and have a good mood. And they succeed!

We are very grateful to everyone who helped the children, who provided shelter!

The “Kids to Kids ” Foundation has been taking care of these children for several years. We are glad that the children are now safe. Our team of “Kids to Kids” Foundation is always there to assist them with any necessary help.
