Zakhar Bobos. Project "Happiness for every family"

Date of birth: 20.07.2021
м. Kyiv

Diagnosis:
Cerebral palsy, spastic diplegia,
Equino-plano-valgus deformity of the feet,
lower spastic paraparesis, pyramidal insufficiency in the hands, speech and mental retardation.

Zakhar is the second child in the family.
Until the 30th week of pregnancy, the future mother’s pregnancy was going well under the supervision of the doctor who oversaw her first pregnancy, but suddenly there was a possibility of premature birth. The reason for the sharp deterioration, as it turned out later, became a pregnant woman’s nervousness, as her family life was threatened by divorce. Maria spent a long time in the hospital under the constant supervision of an obstetrician-gynecologist and ultrasound to keep the pregnancy and deliver the child, but it did not help – an obstetrician silicone pessary was inserted to stop the process of cervical dilation. After being discharged from the hospital, she was on bed rest at home until the 37th week of pregnancy. This allowed the pregnancy to continue and the baby to be born on time at 39 weeks.

Zakhar was born with good indicators: weight 3150 grams, height 50 centimeters. At first, everything seemed to go well, the baby developed almost according to the norms, but his mother already had some worries. The baby started crawling at 7 months, did not sit down until 10 months, and at the age of 1.6 years, Zakhar still did not stand on his feet. His mother began to sound the alarm. The local pediatrician consoled her that children develop differently and maybe Zakhar’s time had not yet come. The mother did not calm down and began to see other specialists, undergo numerous medical examinations, including an MRI of the brain.

Consultations with 5 neurologists, an orthopedist, and examinations at the Ukrainian Medical Center for Rehabilitation of Children with Organic Nervous System Disorders of the Ministry of Health of Ukraine on Bohatyrska Street, Kyiv, confirmed the diagnosis: Cerebral palsy: spastic diplegia (Little’s disease), lower spastic paraparesis, pyramidal insufficiency in the hands, delayed speech and mental development.

In April 2023, Zakhar received a disability. Since then, his mother has been actively involved in the child’s health: the boy is taking all possible rehabilitation courses free of charge in Kyiv, as well as supportive classes at home. Zakhar already has some success: the long-awaited first steps at the age of 1.7-1.8 years. There is a lot of tireless work ahead to learn everything and enjoy childhood. Each small step leads the boy and his family to the most cherished dream – to stand firmly and confidently on his feet, learn to speak and leave the terrible diagnoses only on paper.
Rehabilitation specialists believe that Zakhar is a very promising boy. Doctors confirm that the child’s intelligence is fully preserved.

His mother said: “My son understands everything, asks to go potty, reacts to everything, but speaks very little. Every sound, letter, and even word is both a great achievement and a small step forward for Zakhar and me. The main thing, according to experts, is to work continuously with rehabilitation therapists, speech therapists, teachers, defectologists and other specialists. They advise us to undergo additional rehabilitation in private rehabilitation centers, where the level of specialists is often higher, the choice of equipment and procedures is much greater. I understand that my son’s rehabilitation should be lifelong and I am ready to do everything possible and impossible. Unfortunately, I have no financial solvency. Currently, I am on maternity leave with two minor children, and we live off state social benefits and support from relatives. It is a shame that my father is not interested, does not communicate with the children and does not provide assistance. Even the war did not save our family. I would be very grateful for the opportunity to undergo a rehabilitation course at the Samotuzhka Center for Children with Disabilities in Kyiv, and for help in treating my son.”

The course of treatment for Zakhar at the Samotuzhka Center will cost more than UAH 20,000 for two weeks and will depend on the set of classes and procedures. Each course means new achievements for the little boy!
