Tymofіy was born in the city of Sinelnikovo from the first planned and longed-for pregnancy, which was going well. All tests and ultrasounds of the future mother were normal. But closer to the eighth month, her blood pressure began to spike – at 28 weeks, the doctor suggested that she go to the hospital for preservation. She arrived at the hospital in advance at 39 weeks in good condition, her tests were normal. When labor began a week later, measurements showed that the baby was large, but a Cesarean section was not offered. During labor, the baby got stuck in the birth canal. The contractions stopped, and the labor was stimulated by the Christeller method (squeezing), which resulted in oxygen deprivation and hemorrhage.
At birth, the baby did not immediately scream. The child’s condition was diagnosed as serious. The baby was immediately sent by ambulance to the pediatric intensive care unit in Dnipro, where he stayed for a week. Severe convulsions occurred. He spent two weeks in the pathology department on tube feeding. After stabilization, Tymofiy was under observation in the neonatology department for a month. The doctors did not comment or give any prognoses regarding the child’s health.
Then Tymofiy and his mother were sent to neurology, where they stayed for another three weeks. There the baby was taught to swallow and suck. Up to four months, feeding was extremely difficult. In the neurology department, the child was immediately diagnosed with several diseases.
At 9 months, he had his first epileptic seizure. Every two to three months Tymofiy was hospitalized for examination and rehabilitation. When the boy turned one year old, he was diagnosed with cerebral palsy, subgroup A, and cerebral palsy. Tymofiy does not sit, walk or talk. Both before and now, doctors do not give prognoses, saying that everything depends on the child. Once a month, Tymofiy undergoes a massage course at home.
From 2020 until February 24, 2022, the child underwent rehabilitation courses every two to three months in Sumy, Dnipro at St. John’s Center, and private courses by a rehabilitation therapist from Lviv who came to Dnipro.
With the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion, there were no rehabilitations, only massages at home.
“The day with Tymka goes like this: we wake up, do morning procedures, then I feed Tymofiy, then turn on cartoons, although he doesn’t really respond to them, but he listens a little, and I do housework at this time. Then we play with him and do some exercise. There are days when the child doesn’t want to lie down and cries all the time, then I sit with him all day, holding him in my arms. On such days, I can’t do anything at home until my husband comes home from work. In the evening, I feed my son and put him to bed. He is very fond of yogurt, cookies, bananas, apples, cottage cheese. He eats almost everything that can be blended, as well as a variety of baby purees and instant cereals. In general, he sleeps well, except when he is sick,” says Tymofiy’s mother.
The family is limited in resources. Vadym is in constant need of diapers, medicines, vitamin complexes, orthopedic clothing, specialized invalid special wheelchair for the carblender.
