Meet Savelii Oliynyk – a new participant in the monthly assistance project by the “Kids to Kids” Charity Foundation
Savelii Oliynyk is an incredibly strong and courageous boy. His story is one of struggle and hope.
Savelii was born on December 13, 2017. His mother’s pregnancy was perfect, but the delivery was complicated, affecting his health. Immediately after birth, Savelii was transferred to the intensive care unit and then to the neonatal pathology department. He spent the first two weeks of his life in the hospital.
Despite all the difficulties, Savelii continued to fight. However, over time, it became clear that his development differed from that of his peers. After numerous examinations at the Kharkiv Genetic Center, Savelii was diagnosed with a congenital brain defect, symptomatic epilepsy, West syndrome, mixed tetraparesis, and severe developmental delay. A child with a disability subgroup A.
Today, Savelii requires constant medical care and attention. He takes medications, special enzymes for better food absorption, and high-calorie porridges. Savelii underwent two complicated surgeries and now has become a lifelong tracheostomy carrier, requiring special care, monthly replacement of the tracheostomy tube and a special saliva sanitization device. Bladder diverticulum is another complication that requires daily catheterization twice a day to remove urine residue. His mother has learned to take care of him on her own, to perform all the necessary surgeries, having skills similar to nursing, because the boy does not sit, stand, swallow food, etc. on his own and needs help 24/7. Savelii suffers from seizures and loves it when his parents hold him in their arms because it calms him down very well.
Despite all the challenges, Savelii remains a smiling and joyful boy. He loves to listen to fairy tales, watch cartoons and responds to the sounds of classical music, the touch of his brother and pet dogs. His sincere smile brings joy and hope to the whole family.
Savelii needs our support to continue fighting and developing.
