Kyryl Medviediev. "Happiness in every family"

Diagnosis: Cerebral palsy, spastic hemiplegia

Date of birth: April 20, 2018
м. Bakhmut
Donetsk region

In April 2018, a wonderful boy Kyryl was born. The birth was complicated: a strong cord entanglement around the neck, which was life-threatening, although the baby’s weight was 3550 grams, the baby’s condition on the Apgar scale was rated only 2/5 points, 15 minutes he was not breathing – it was the most terrible 15 minutes. The next 5 days in the NICU were extremely difficult. After that the child was sent to the CMU GTMO in Kramatorsk, where the newborn Kyryl stayed for a month. There he underwent numerous examinations, countless tests, they pumped out the fluid that had accumulated in his brain and threatened the baby’s life.

“It was in that place that I was told the diagnosis of my son that we would have to go and fight together for the rest of our lives. When we were discharged, I realized that now I was left alone with my baby, because as it turned out his father didn’t need us anymore. And then began 5 years of endless rehabilitation and the search for specialists for my baby. Even the war did not stop me from treating my son, because that was the main goal for me. When I look at his results, this is what motivates me to move to other cities, to find safety and the best for him. I am sure that I will never stop doing my best for my son, for one thing: “Thank you, Mom!” and his first independent step.

I am from the Donetsk region, the city of Chasov Yar. At the moment my son and I are living in Kyiv. We live on welfare benefits because there is no one to leave my son with, and he needs constant care and supervision. We do not communicate with his father and he does not take part in his son’s upbringing.

All five years of his life my son has been undergoing rehabilitation courses wherever possible: Skadovsk, Donetsk, Kyiv. Kyryl is getting better and better with every rehabilitation, he is making progress, we are trying to move forward and we believe that we will be fine. On the last course of rehabilitation, Kyryl became more responsive, he is trying to work with his arm and he is not very good yet, but he is trying. We still needs to work hard to improve the mobility of his arm and leg. To restore motor skills, during his last rehabilitation our son took a course of physical therapy, massage, thermotherapy, mechanotherapy, ergotherapy, and also he worked with a speech therapist and psychologist and attended hippotherapy class. I’m sure that in the future we will move forward and go to rehabilitation as much as we need so that Kyryl will be fine.”

This is a story from little Kyryl’s mother.

From the research of doctors and conclusions of rehabilitologists, the boy has all chances not only to improve, but also to restore mobility and speech. He is ready to overcome the disease and go to victory step by step, and he cannot cope without support!
