Denys Zavhorodnyi. Project "Happiness for every family"

Date of birth: 20.06.2013
Place of birth: Kharkiv

Diagnosis:
Cerebral palsy, spastic tetraparesis,
symptomatic epilepsy, cortical blindness.

Denys was born on time, a completely healthy child, developed according to the norms, but at the age of 11 months he suffered an acute bacterial infectious disease (Escherichia Coli Infections), which affected all internal organs, including the brain. The child fell into a coma that lasted 11 days. Bilateral pneumonia with lung damage. He was on medical ventilation (artificial lung ventilation) and tube feeding. The doctors decided to put in drainage to release fluid from the lungs. Denis’s condition was extremely serious, his chances of survival were slim, but the boy survived.

Unfortunately, after a long stay in a coma, the child lost all his skills: holding his head, sucking, talking, sitting. Seizures, spasticity, and vision appeared. Denis celebrated his first birthday in the hospital, where he spent almost four months.

After a lengthy medical examination in several medical institutions in the Kharkiv city (at the Neurology Department of the Children’s Hospital #5, the Institute of Neurology and Psychiatry and in the Institute of Genetics), the final diagnosis was made:
Cerebral Palsy,
spastic tetraparesis,
symptomatic epilepsy,
cortical blindness.

The parents tried to rehabilitate their son in every possible way, but the results were temporary, they underwent various courses of treatment, but most of the prescribed medications only worsened the child’s condition and eventually it was decided to discontinue the anticonvulsants.
Denys has two younger sisters (born in 2015 and 2020) and a brother (born in 2023). Unfortunately, Denys’s own father abandoned him when he was only three years old, his stepfather also disappeared, and his mother took care of a large family with a disabled child.

In the village of Murafa, Kharkiv region, where Denys now lives, there is no institution for the rehabilitation of children with disabilities, so the mother takes care of her son at home. From time to time, whenever family has the opportunity and money, Denys takes massage therapy with a professional specialist at home.

Children should be happy and healthy, learn and develop, and enjoy life. Despite the challenges and trials of fate, the mother does her best to ensure a happy childhood for her four children.

The family has limited means of subsistence. Denys needs constant support, a special bed for bathing, an orthopedic mattress, a special wheelchair, massage therapy to relieve spasticity, muscle strengthening equipment, a blender, and educational toys. Constant need for diapers #6. Food, especially meat and dairy products, vitamins and minerals.

This family needs your help!
